Puerto Rico Flavor is Online

It is a Wednesday, a little before noon, and you are somewhere on the south side of Indianapolis wanting mofongo. You search. What you need is three things: are they open right now, where exactly is the truck, and a number to call if the answer to either is unclear.

Until this week, the way to find out was to call and ask. Now there is a page that answers before you finish scrolling, and that is the whole point of it.

Who they are

Puerto Rico Flavor is a food truck at 4811 South High School Road, in Decatur Township. They cook Puerto Rican food to order: pernil, mofongo, alcapurrias, the dishes people who grew up eating them describe by saying "like my grandmother made". It is food that is genuinely hard to find in this city, and they have built a loyal following on word of mouth alone.

They are open Wednesday through Saturday, 11am to 7pm, and closed Sunday through Tuesday. You can call ahead on (317) 588-4939, order through DoorDash, or just turn up.

Puerto Rico Flavor is a client of ours. We built the site, we are proud of it, and we would rather say so plainly than have you work it out.

What the site does

prflavor.com on a phone: the DoorDash button, the menu, and the hours, address and phone number in view without scrolling

Their website is at prflavor.com, and it was designed around one person: somebody standing on a sidewalk, or sitting in a parked car, deciding where to eat in the next ten minutes.

So the hours are the first thing on the page, not the last. The address is a link that opens the map. The phone number is a link that places the call. And the page shows its main content in under three seconds on a phone connection, with nothing jumping around while it loads, because a page that moves under your thumb is a page you close.

That last one matters more than it sounds: it is the difference between a search engine understanding that this is a restaurant, in this place, open at these hours, and a search engine guessing.

The part that matters if you run a business

Here is the detail we care about most, and it is invisible to a customer.

Their hours, their address and their phone number live in one place in the site. The page reads from it. The map link reads from it. The tap-to-call button reads from it. The listing information a search engine reads is generated from it. None of those can drift apart, because there is nothing to drift: there is one fact, and everything else is a view of it.

If you have ever had a customer show up to a closed door because Google said one thing and your website said another, you know why this matters. When Puerto Rico Flavor changes their hours, they change them once, and every place a customer might look agrees.

That is not a feature we sell as an add-on. It is how we think a small business site should be built, and this one is a good example of it.

Go and eat there

Wednesday to Saturday, 11am to 7pm, 4811 South High School Road, Indianapolis. Check prflavor.com first if you are not sure, which is now a thing you can do.

If you have never had mofongo, this is where to start.
